Update - Changes we are making to help

Now that we are in our second full week of the Covid-19 pandemic, I wanted to take the opportunity to update you on a few things that we are doing here in Strencom & Baker Security to ensure the safety of our staff and to continue to run the essential services that are required now more than ever.

In countries where a lockdown situation is in place, ISP/Networking services have been designated as essential services, and so if that situation were to arise here in Ireland, we would expect the same designation to apply to Strencom & Baker.

As with all companies, our priority is the safety of our staff and our contractors, so as you may expect we are all working from home and have full access to all systems for support, provisioning and maintenance, as well as ongoing account management. We have taken the decision to stop all non-essential maintenance or upgrades on any of the core network and cloud systems and so we have a core network freeze in place for the time being. We are continuing to build out customer specific networks, as requested by customers and will continue to do so as required. And of course we will continue to provide our legandary support all normal.

Activity Up To Now

For the past 10 days or so, we have been working with our customers to help them enable larger scale remote working, setting up new VPN’s, increasing cloud capacity, increasing licensing, and provisioning entirely new cloud and other systems to allow their staff to work from home. Much of this initial work is now complete but if you do need any additional capacity in any area please let us know and we will work diligently to deliver what is required, as soon as we can.

 Bandwidth Increases

We have noticed that some of our customer internet connections do not have enough bandwidth to carry the increased traffic load, so we will be upgrading customer capacity for two months free of charge to cope with that requirement. Your account manager will be in contact over the coming days to discuss this, and other initiatives that we are pro-actively working on to ensure a good user experience for everyone working from home/remotely.

The Next Phase

And so, we are now entering a phase of what is the “new normal” for us all for the coming 8 weeks or maybe longer. I know that many businesses are finding the current situation very challenging, so we are looking at ways in which we can deliver some cost saving measures that will ease at least some of the burden now and into the future.

If there is anything further that we can do to help you at this time, please don’t hesitate to contact your account manager, or myself and we will do our best to help.

Best regards,
Tim Murphy
